Emerging NZ pop artist Jessica Leigh shifts gears with her latest single ‘Ooh La La’

Tāmaki Makaurau-based singer-songwriter Jessica Leigh is set to release Ooh La La on Friday May 2nd, her first single for 2025. The track is the first release from an upcoming extended project and marks a key evolution in her musical journey. Ooh La La sees Leigh embracing a fresh sound and transitioning into a more indie rock/pop space. Co-produced and mixed by the talented Jacob Brown (Muroki, Six60, ratbag), the song captivates with electric guitars, live drums, and raw, organic textures that showcase a more mature, layered sonic landscape.
Ooh La La is not just a new sound – it’s a statement of intent. At its core, it’s a bold, unapologetic track about a brazen attempt to convince a former flame to reconnect. It reflects Leigh stepping into her new sound with red-hot confidence, blending emotional vulnerability with a newfound sense of assertiveness. The song’s sizzling indie pop/rock energy perfectly matches its themes of desire and recklessness, reflecting Leigh’s fearless approach to both her music and her personal growth.
Lyrically and sonically, Ooh La La signals a pivotal moment for Leigh. Known for her emotive and introspective songwriting, Leigh pushes past familiar territory to explore themes of desire and connection in a more fun and mature light. This new direction comes at a moment of personal evolution, as she embraces her creative potential and explores the balance between vulnerability and strength.
This shift is not just a musical one, but a testament to Leigh’s growth as an artist. Having already built a dedicated fanbase with her previous pop releases, Ooh La La represents the next chapter in her journey – a fearless step into a more self-assured space. With this single, Leigh continues to carve out her own path, fusing raw emotional honesty with bold sonic choices.
In 2023, Leigh released glittery synth pop gem Wired’ and piano ballad missing you, both earning spots on Spotify playlists like Fresh Finds and Fresh Finds Pop. Wired has gained just shy of 500k streams on Spotify and radio play in New Zealand across ZM and The Edge. Entirely self produced missing you charted at number 17 on the Hot NZ Singles chart.
