Fables to Join Sir Dave Dobbyn for Selected Songs Encore

Sir Dave Dobbyn has today announced acclaimed Tāmaki Makaurau folk-Americana outfit Fables as the special guest for his one-night-only Selected Songs – Encore performance at Auckland’s iconic Civic Theatre on Saturday 25 July.

Led by songwriter Jessica Bailey, Fables have spent the past decade carving out a distinctive place within Aotearoa’s independent music scene. Their sound elegantly blends the intimacy of folk revival with the expansive qualities of alt-country and Americana, drawing comparisons to artists including Gillian Welch, Laura Marling and Adrianne Lenker. Through economical yet arresting storytelling, Bailey explores the highs, lows and quiet moments of everyday life, creating songs that are both deeply personal and quietly surreal.

The special Auckland performance follows Sir Dave’s hugely successful sold-out Selected Songs Aotearoa Tour in 2025, giving fans one final opportunity to experience a career-spanning celebration of one of New Zealand’s most beloved songwriters.

With over 45 years as a recording artist, Sir Dave Dobbyn has shaped the sound of Kiwi music, penning the soundtrack to generations of New Zealand lives. From iconic anthems to an extraordinary catalogue of deeper cuts, Dobbyn’s set promises an unforgettable journey through one of the nation’s most storied songwriting legacies.

Diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2022, Dobbyn declared it “business as usual” – and continues to inspire with his unmistakable voice and enduring presence on stage. Recognised with a Knighthood in 2021 for his services to music, Dobbyn remains one of New Zealand’s most revered cultural figures.
