Floyd Marsden Announces New 2026 Album ‘What Does It Mean?’

Today, Floyd Marsden drops her latest single, Lemon Trees & Apple Juice, and announces her brand new album.
Coming in 2026, Floyd Marsden’s third album – What Does It Mean? – is a step in a new sonic direction. Having released 2024’s The Disco Lizards, Floyd channelled most of her funk-based energetic songwriting into her 2025 band project New Teeth. This left her with a large collection of softer, much more introspective pieces for her solo releases. With an impressive thirteen tracks, the album spans Floyd’s musical and personal growth from all the way back in high school to mid 2025.
Though a majority of the songs were written in 2025, two of the tracks are deep cuts from a folder of old songs written in her teenage years. Namely, She’s All I Ever Write Songs About (written when Floyd was sixteen years old), and a reworked version of her liveshow staple from 2020 – Pop Song (once titled This Song Isn’t Subtle). Pop Song also marks Floyd’s first ever studio collaboration with NZ pop sensation Danica Bryant.
The tracks on the album provide thought-provoking journeys through themes such as artistic merit, finding happiness in an increasingly scary world, and the workings of the music industry itself. Examples of this can be found with the three singles released already: Passenger Side, a country-esque pop song depicting a bittersweet goodbye between two long distance lovers; What Does It Mean?, the album’s title track with a pop rock flavoured introspection piece; and today’s release Lemon Trees & Apple Juice, a piano-pop ballad to cry to.
“It feels so unique and special to me,” Floyd says of the album, “this is the first album I’ll be releasing where my life is entirely revolved around music. My first two were released while I was part-time music teaching, part-time working hospitality and service jobs, but in the two years since recording The Disco Lizards, I’ve managed to switch to a full time music career.”
She goes on to say that the album details the difference in outlook that comes from a major career change such as this: “a big theme of the album is trying to find what your place is in a world that feels a little hostile and unfriendly – I felt for a while like it was definitely the right choice to pursue being a rock star, and then I didn’t really care for it after a while, it wasn’t the right vibe for me, so the first song and the last song on the album are very much sister songs. The opener sort of poses the question, ‘what is art and how can I make it now?’ and the closer kind of answers it. It’s not quite as pretentious as it sounds, but it’s pretty close.”
What Does It Mean? releases on Friday January 23rd 2026. Pre-save will be available within the next few weeks. Plans for a physical release are being made. The album will be launched with a special celebratory show in early 2026, with further details to be announced in the coming months.
