Funding Support for Wanaka Music Summit
Two weeks out from Wanaka’s YAMI Sounz Summit, the event has received grants totaling $22000 from Lion Foundation, Central Lakes Arts Support Scheme, Creative Communities Scheme, Recorded Music NZ, QLDC, NZ Music Commission, APRA Amcos, Lake Wanaka Tourism and Massey University.
Event Manager Josephine Gallagher confirms their delight, adding that this support is essential in order to ensure a quality weekend event, where participants have access to key music professionals with a proven success record in the industry.
First time Yami tutors P Digsss, Tiki Taane and Sambora (Shapeshifter), Steph Brown (Lips/Daffodils) Kings and Bella Kalolo join “old hands” Warren Maxwell, Lee Prebble, Danny Fairley and Barnaby Weir, among others. Together they donate their time, skills and energy to support this innovative educational summit.
With all profits from the summit going to music education in the region, Lake Wanaka SouNZ Incorporated director Lynne Christie adds that while all of the summit places are now taken, there are a few Day Passes available for Saturday and Sunday.
Christie confirms that the community support has moved “to the next level” for the 2019 event, with some volunteers returning for their fourth event, and three previous registrants returning as tutors.
The music summit takes place in Lake Wanaka Centre on May 11th and 12th and culminates in two evening concerts, open to the public (Kings on Saturday, Yami Showcase ft Tiki Taane on Sunday).
