Introducing Scenic Soundscape

Scenic Soundscape is a film series that places musicians in landscapes that have personally shaped them. We combine landscape cinematography, live performance and interviews into feature-length episodes. The kaupapa is simple: give artists a space to tell their story through a place that shaped them. It matters to us that the land isn’t framed as belonging to anyone. It’s about what the place means to the artist.
Episode 01 was filmed at Baring Head / Ōrua-pouanui with the band Bruce in 2024 and can be watched here: HERE. It was a proof of concept, and since then production has scaled up significantly.
Episode 02 follows Wellington DJ and producer Lennox (broderbeats) up the Remutaka Trig Walk for a sunrise performance. We had a 4am start, with the crew hiking in with all the gear to capture a DJ set over the mountains as the sun came up. I produced and directed it with a team of 10 amazing humans. It was supported by Boosted (The Arts Foundation), the French Embassy in New Zealand, CentrePort (where I still work casually as an electrician), Fujifilm NZ, Greater Wellington Regional Council and Massey University.
Episodes are published on YouTube alongside cinema screenings. EP02 premiered at Massey University on the 26th of October alongside a synced YouTube release the same night, so the cinema and online audiences watched together. You can watch it here.
