Justin Devereux Unveils Debut Album ‘Nickels&Dimes’

Today marks the official release of Justin Devereux’s debut album, Nickels&Dimes – a bold, genre-fluid collection that seamlessly blends Indie Rock, Blues, Americana Country, and Folk into a captivating sonic journey.
With a voice that reaches deep into the soul, Justin weaves storytelling with melody, creating a sound that allows rhythm and emotion to take centre stage. This deeply personal album is a culmination of his lifelong dream to make music – a passion reignited during the COVID years when he reassessed his career in film and television.
“I was waking up in the middle of the night with cold sweats, freaking out that I’d missed my chance to make music. That was what I always wanted. That’s always been my dream really,” says Justin. Determined to follow his dream, he moved his young family to Los Angeles in 2023, trading familiarity for ambition.
Recorded in two live sessions at Roundhead Studios’ ‘Brick Room’ in Auckland, Nickels&Dimes features an impressive lineup of talent, including Neil Watson (pedal steel & guitar), Alex Freer (drums), Jonathan Burgess & Chip Matthews (bass) – all brought together by producer De Stevens.
Justin says, “Quite frankly, these guys are the best. I’d worked with Neil and Chip before on my first single Deer in the Headlights, so when De suggested them for the album I didn’t hesitate for a second. They’re super talented, and by default they put so much into the songs. They really care, and collectively I just love what everyone did on this album.”
Raw and untamed, Nickels&Dimes resonates with deep reflection, longing, and exploration. It’s a sound that feels at home under a big desert sky or vast, open spaces.
Alongside the album release, Justin is also dropping a new single, Dirty Water, complete with an official music video premiering today.
Justin’s latest single, Starring in My Dreams, released on April 18, has already made an impact; earning placement on NZ on Air’s ‘NewTracks’ playlist for May and amassing nearly 3,000 streams within its first two weeks. His earlier releases, Deer in the Headlights, Cotton Wool and Sugar Baby have also gained notable streaming success, further solidifying his presence in the music scene.
