Local Whanganui band BB and The Bullets sign with iconic French Record label Dixie Frog Records

Exciting times for local Whanganui Blues Rock act BB and The Bullets. Their debut album High Tide has been scooped up by iconic French Record label Dixie Frog Records.
Recorded in Whanganui at producer and band leader Brian Baker’s Nixon Street recording studio after the band had established itself by gigging around the local circuit, High Tide is due for international release through the label on September 12th this year.
With shows at Lads Brewery, a regular Thursday night at The Commercial Hotel, plus appearances at Mainstreet’s Kaboodle Festival and further afield in Whangarei, Auckland City Council Music In Parks, Bay Of Islands Jazz and Blues Festival, Capital Blues Inc in Wellington and the Te Puna Quarry in Tauranga, BB and The Bullets are wowing audiences whoever they appear.
Baker says, “Doing the hard work of all the live shows made recording the album a smooth process resulting in a very fresh, live sound without attempting to over embellish what is a simple three piece band. The joy is in the songs and in the playing and interaction of the band members”. The album consists of seven original tunes and five classic blues covers. “We included the blues covers as we wanted to firmly establish ourselves as a contemporary blues act, where we could comfortably fit into a festival or concert alongside modern blues acts like Joe Bonamassa and Eric Gayles.”
The approach is certainly paying off for the band with their first single, Something In The Water being released on April 11th. BB and The Bullets will be filming a video to accompany the release at The Commercial Hotel on Sunday March 30th with local filmmakers and technicians. Public are invited to come along and join in as the audience for the filming from 3.30pm on the Sunday afternoon.
Band members Brad McMillan (drums), Stu Duncan (bass) and Brian Baker (guitar and vocals) couldn’t be happier “Working with Dixie Frog, seeing our record released in Europe, UK, The States and New Zealand is a dream come true for our little Whanganui band”. We hope everybody comes along for the ride!”
The finished video will be launched at Whanganui’s Davis Theatre on Friday 11th April at 7pm, everybody’s welcome, keep an eye on the bands Facebook page for more announcements.
