Midwave Breaks Bring on an Early 2000’s Summer with New Single
Midwave Breaks follow up the release of their album Echo. Tide. Awake. with an up-beat retrospective rocker to kickstart the New Zealand Summer!
1 And Only, the Tauranga Duo’s latest Radio Single, is a throwback-style track, unapologetically re-embracing all that was great about early 2000’s Pop-Rock.
“Building from soaring vocal hooks and towering guitar stacks before breaking down to nothing in a heartbeat, 1 And Only is an absolute high watermark for modern New Zealand rock (and a personal favourite off the record).” – Carl Hayman, Muzic.NZ Album Review
Drummer Paul Russell explains the story behind the song:
“It’s about that person we’ve all comes across, that has an inflated sense of self, who thinks they’re the centre of attention, but in reality, it’s all in their own head, and nobody’s looking!”
Midwave Breaks have a proven track record of independent radio success, already delivering 3 Top 10 Radioscope Rock airplay tracks for 2026 ahead of their full album release earlier this month.
Bruce (Singer, Guitarist) and Paul (Drummer) can’t wait to bring 1 And Only to the stage for their NZ Album Release Tour through Nov/Dec, with four shows across the Motu, joined by Special guests, The Response, The Rainfall, Courtnay and The Unholy Reverie, No Pilot, Not Exact, and Van Brookes.
1 And Only is Out Now as part of the 13 track Album, Echo. Tide. Awake. available on Vinyl and CD from local record stores across NZ, online, and on streaming platforms worldwide.
