Mikaela Cougar Releases New Track ‘Still Mine’
Auckland’s pop rock pixie Mikaela Cougar returns with Still Mine the fourth single from upcoming project.
A catchy, lighthearted, indie-pop release, Still Mine is about the emotional relapses that hit during the aftermath of a breakup. Short, sharp, and catchy, Still Mine leans into a hook-driven pop structure, masking its deeper meaning beneath a carefree
delivery.
At just 2 minutes 30 seconds, it’s a song that moves quickly, much like the emotional cycle it captures.
While Still Mine leans further into pop than Mikaela’s previous releases, it still carries her signature quirky edge. Longtime collaborator Johnny Fleury, who features across much of Mikaela’s catalogue, adds textured guitar and Chapman Stick synths that subtly swirl through the track, keeping it distinctly gremlin, pixie, witch-friendly.
This track went on a journey and has 3 producers. Mikaela recorded the guitar and vocals in her bedroom over the drum loop you hear in the song today, adding layers onto it with Buzz Moller and then teaming up with Tom Broome to finish it off.
