MōTA Releases New Album
Dunedin band MōTA have launched One; the first of two albums in their debut ‘set’.
Recorded at Sublime Studios in Kurow under the engineering wing of Tom Havard and co-producer Steve Harrop, MōTA energise the NZ alt-rock scene with a superb collection of songs.
From driving riffs and catchy bass hooks to poetically observational lyrics and catchy melodies, MōTA is a superb atomic addition to all that currently inhabits NZ’s aural quark-house.
MōTA is a three-piece, with Jimmy Higgs on guitars & vocals, Craig Hall bass, vocals/Te Reo vocals and the South Island powerhouse Jason Chisholm on drums. The album also includes, keys in several songs from Steve Harrop and Te Reo vocals in the track To Rome from Rhonda Bryant, Tenaya Brown, Karamea Pewhairangi, Aliyah Tautuhi-Fraser and Kiritea Smith.
Mastered by Chris Shetland at Kog Studio. MōTA has been together for a little over a year; “We’ve had a lot of fun over the past twelve months gigging and getting these songs sorted for release”, says Jimmy. “The three of us have been mates for a long time, so the creative process is a super relaxed and easy going one.”
One consists of seven tracks, three of which will be released prior to the launch night. One track every week on a Wednesday leading up to the launch show. All available on standard streaming services.
MōTA celebrated the launch of the album on the 17th May to a sold out show at the Southcoast Boardriders Association. Two, the second of the debut album set is scheduled for release October 2025.
