New Zealand Musician Caite Releases Bold Second Album
New Zealand artist Caite Jo Mitchell, who lives with Glutaric Aciduria type 1 (GA1), today releases her second album, Eight Quiet Things, a collection of original songs rooted in lived experience, family bonds, and the events of recent years.
More ambitious in scope than her debut record “Timber Castle”, the new album was recorded using a blend of AI production tools and sessions at the recording studio inside the Ahuatanga space at Matatiki Library. The result is an intimate yet inventive body of work that reflects Caite’s expanding creative vision.
A standout moment on the album is “Cats n Cars”, which features Caite singing alongside her two-year-old nephew Alfie, a joyful, unguarded track that sits at the heart of the album’s celebration of whanau.

Caite’s motivation is clear: to show that creative expression is not the exclusive territory of those without barriers. Living with GA1 shapes her world, but it does not define the boundaries of her art.
