Nima Astria Returns with Synth-Pop EDM Single ‘Sexybeat’

This October, Nima Astria returns with her dreamy lead single Sexybeat, the first from her upcoming debut EP. Laced throughout with 80’s synth-pop sensibilities, the single incorporates dubstep production and moments of baroque, giving an idealistic flair to an otherwise raw and chaotic genre.
Accompanying the single is a spooky rococo-inspired music video directed by Copper Maesteal, featuring Nima Astria and friends dancing around an “asbestos-filled” lounge in gorgeous vintage silhouettes, styled by Nikirei Atas and choreographed by Grace Wei.
Nima Astria is an Iranian-Kiwi contemporary DJ and artist from Tāmaki Makaurau. Within her local scene, Nima is known for “avant-club” genre-bending and playful DJ sets, with a penchant for deconstructed and industrial experimental beats. Previously, Nima opened for influential international artists such as Ninajirachi, DJ G2G, Estoc, umru and MGNA Crrrta. 2025 saw her hit the ground running with her debut single Cologne ft. Ariki followed closely by deny and Talk is Cheap ft. Jedwill.
Nima Astria returned this year with fellow electronic artist Smurgy, forming the eclectic hyperclub DJ-Producer duo, boyracer. Together, they released their debut single God is The DJ, and crowd-pleaser sophomore track OUTFIT, which charted #1 on the New Zealand Student Radio Network earlier this year. The pair then collaborated with fellow trailblazing DJ-Producer acts on a 6-piece remix EP, as well as local performance artist and director Copper Maesteal in their first ever music video for God is The DJ, an ode to the Tāmaki Makaurau underground DJ community and iconic local venue, Neck Of The Woods.
