After storming the charts and taking over the airwaves with his last single That Somebody’s You, talented Auckland-based troubadour Sam Cullen continues his meteoric rise with his new offering Don’t Leave Me Alone.

An infectious and upbeat rock-infused tune, with a killer bass line, Sam co-wrote Don’t Leave Me Alone with his good friend and bandmate Nepia Ruwhiu and then co-produced it with Chris Scott. The song sees Sam reflecting on the human experience within adulthood. “This experience is what I’m currently navigating as a 24-year-old and it’s informing a lot of my writing. From a sonic perspective it’s a dancey one which I love. There’s two sides of the coin for me at the moment and the fun, upbeat side prevails here. Don’t Leave Me Alone is made to be performed live and has been a cornerstone in our live set for almost a year now.”

The accompanying music video was co-directed by Hugo Wallace and Chris Scott and shot at Poynton Studios in central Auckland.

Sam Cullen talks about the making of the video: “When planning the video for Don’t Leave Me Alone, we wanted it to be with the band and the vibe of simple and fun. I think we did a great job of nailing all of this. We’ve been playing as a band for so long now that any excuse to hang out is a good one. This time we just caught it on camera.”

Don’t Leave Me Alone is the second single from Sam’s upcoming self-titled debut album and follows the release of That Somebody’s You, which charted for 5 weeks on the Aotearoa Hot Singles chart, and peaked #64 on the Radioscope all airplay / top 100 and #11 NZ radio play after receiving widespread radio play on ZM, The Edge, TAHI The Hits and more.

Sam has just been announced to open for Keli Holiday (Peking Duk) in Auckland on Friday September 12 at the Tuning Fork.

This is fresh from performing at Going Global in Auckland last night. Sam was one of a handful of New Zealand artists handpicked to perform at Going Global – a music industry conference and showcase featuring some of the most exciting new names in Aotearoa music.

Stay tuned for more from Sam on the horizon!
