Punk It Up is Back For 2027
After taking a breather in 2026, the team at Punk It Up Mission Control are revving up the machine for another instalment of the best punk show in Aotearoa New Zealand: Punk It Up VI
On Saturday May 8th 2027 they’re planning to host a metric F-ton of bands, DJs, art, and everything else that comes with a Punk It Up event – plus some unexpected extras – utlising the magic of a full Whammy Takeover.

Heck, in fact, there are so many bands wanting to play, that they’re even going to have a Punk It Up VI ‘Curtain Raiser’ gig the night before the main shebang. So, on Friday May 7th, you can head to the original Whammy Bar to catch a six-pack of bands that can’t fit on the Saturday night.
Separate tickets for the Friday Curtain Raiser event will go on sale on January 1 2027, along with regular-priced PIU VI tickets for the main Saturday show.
Punk It Up VI bands include the triumphant return of Desperate Measures, originally from the early 80’s in Ōtautahi ChCh. They’ve been rocking the faces off unsuspecting members of the general public in the UK and Europe for the last 10 years-plus, and decided it was time for a trip home.
Established acts like Proud Scum, the super-duper cool Cootie Cuties, Te Whanganui-a-Tara Welly metalheads Bulletbelt (doing a punk covers set!!!), X-Features, Dead Simple, Wolfpack (from Aussie), and the Punk It Up House Band bankRobbers, closing the night with a ton of sing-along tunes, with a plethora of special guests joining them to perform Aotearoa waiata from over the years.
There’s a bunch more acts still to be announced, who will be joined by a crop of newer Aotearoa bands such as Cthulus, Fork, Bloodbags, Tim Mahon and Kerfuffle, Grown Downz – the list goes on and on.
DJs Miss Dom, Dubhead, Phil A, Sicoff, DJ Flaming Telepath and more, will be spinning tunes throughout the night, and PIU VI are even planning on showcasing an art show and info booths in the Public Bar, alongside some other attractions yet to be announced.
Loads of bands, two events…this ain’t your usual “bunch of bands on stage” gig, it’s Punk It Up!
Tickets for both nights will be on sale via Under The Radar, who have graciously let us be one of their last ticketing events.
Early Bird tickets for Punk It Up VI are available now through December 31st 2026 (a great Xmas present – hint, hint), with tickets for the May 7th Curtain Raiser gig, and regular priced PIU VI tickets available from January 1st 2027
