Reggae/pop Artist Alya Jade Debuts With Enchanting And Elusive Single 'under Her Spell (boom)'

Growing up performing alongside her father at his own gigs from the age of 7, now 26 year old Alya Jade has taken inspiration from a variety of sounds and experiences to create her own unique fusion of roots, reggae and pop, beginning on April 22nd with her debut single Under Her Spell (Boom). Undertaking development through NZ On Air with producer Ben Malone in 2021, the two experimented with different styles of writing and production to eventually land on what became the world of Under Her Spell (Boom), co-written with fellow NZ artist alternative/pop artist Harry Parsons.

“The song is actually based on a negative experience I had. I went to a party when I was pretty young and remember getting male attention when I didn’t actually want it. I just wanted to take it all in and have a good time, hence the lyric “just watch her dance”. The character we created is an elusive, beautiful woman who has an effect on people without even trying, and I think the song has a very feminist undertone.”

The single is also set to be released in Te Reo Māori, through support from NZ on Air and their Waiata Takitahi initiative, with visual content to coincide. Intending to play more live shows in 2022, Alya hopes to release more music later this year and into 2023.
