Following the sun-drenched success of her #1 Hot NZ 20 Singles chart-topper Over Romantic, Aotearoa’s own Riiki Reid today shares her captivating new single, Candy. This marks the third taste from her highly anticipated upcoming EP.
Over Romantic ignited an endless summer, dominating the NZ Airplay charts for seven consecutive weeks and residing in the Airplay Top 40 for 14 weeks and counting. Now, with Candy, Riiki Reid shifts gears, awakening from the previous tracks’ summer fantasies to confront the uncertainties that arrive with changing seasons.
Penned alongside Robby De Sa (The Veronicas, MAY-A, Coterie) and Phoebe Sinclair (Peptalk), who also co-wrote Over Romantic, Candy carries a nostalgic essence as Riiki Reid contemplates the future of a relationship as summer fades. As RIIKI herself explains, “Candy was written from a place of reminiscing the feelings that begin to take place at the end of a summer lovematch… when you’re in the grey zone and you don’t really know what the hell is going on in real life, you start getting desperate for an indication that the other person wants you as much as you want them.”
