Superturtle Release New Single + Video ‘I Wanted It Twice’
From their first single Free Ride to this July 2026 release Superturtle continue a tradition of finely crafted post and pop punk singles spanning twenty videos and five albums. Performed as a tightly knit 3 piece I Wanted It Twice features James Still on drums, Dean Kalman on bass and vocals, and Darren McShane on guitar and vocals.
To celebrate the track and its music video the band is hosting a four-band single release show in Auckland on release day at The Clare Inn.
The track combines quirky storytelling with social commentary. It details mundane desires – like wanting a second drink at a bar or wishing for extra pork belly over rice – before shifting its focus to consumerism with the closing hook: “The planet can’t handle our excessive consumption.”
Recorded and mastered at Earwig Studios by Darren McShane with Ben and Holly Haigh-McShane as tape ops the track is a stripped back drum/bass and guitar live take with the only production being through vocal effects and gated reverb on the snare. The accompanying video was shot by Darren McShane and includes studio footage of the band with storyline scenes acted by Holly Haigh-McShane and Jarvis Silvey-McShane.
I Wanted It Twice is the fifth single and video from the upcoming double LP, due for imminent release and featuring cover art by Chris Knox.
