New Zealand-born singer-songwriter Suze Harper today releases Lovers’ Lament, the final single from a debut four-song collection that will later be compiled as an EP. Blending jazz, soul, blues and modern singer-songwriter pop, the project introduces Harper as a distinctive new voice with vivid lyricism, a huge vocal range and an instinct for turning intimate experience into emotionally resonant songs.

Across Not That Hard, Anthony, Little One’s Lullaby and Lovers’ Lament, Harper traces longing in its different forms: the desire for uncomplicated love, the fear of losing oneself, the pull of home, and the grief of a future that was promised but never arrived.

Lovers’ Lament closes the collection at its emotional peak. Built around the aftermath of an airport goodbye, the song turns heartbreak into something immediate and physical: the television still on, wine gone sour, the sting of cold air, the ghost of someone who has already left. It is a soul-led song about the stunned silence that follows abandonment – about being asked to keep faith in love by the very person who has walked away.

Grand in feeling yet intimate in detail, the track carries the emotional scale of classic soul while remaining unmistakably contemporary.

“This collection became a way of making sense of longing in all its forms – for uncomplicated love, for home, for one’s self, and for the life you thought you were building.”
