The Early 20’s Release ‘Girl In Disguise’ EP

Auckland alt-emo outfit The Early 20’s return with Girl In Disguise, a tightly-wound, emotionally charged EP that captures the band’s growing presence in Aotearoa’s alternative scene. Following the chart success of their singles Not This Time and On & On, both landing placements on the Official NZ Hot 20 Singles Chart, the band leans further into their blend of punchy punk grit, dreamy shoegaze textures, and raw lyrical honesty.
Across its tracklist, Girl In Disguise carries the band’s signature balance of sharp edges and soft focus guitars that shimmer then bite, drums that move between restraint and catharsis, and vocals that feel both vulnerable and aggressive.
Featuring additional production from Noema Te Hau, as well as drums and additional recording by Tyler Tantin, Girl In Disguise marks a step forward for the band in terms of professionalism and precision. The project is given its final shape with Mastering by Chris Chetland at Kog Studios.
Frontman Adam Rivers brings experience as a producer, songwriter, and live sound engineer, shaping much of the band’s sonic identity. Cade Bond, the group’s bassist, fuels the band’s melodic backbone. Kane Gray holds down drums with a mix of precision and instinct, balancing full-time work with an unwavering commitment to the project. Most recently, guitarist Kieren Norman joined the lineup, introducing new textures and expanding the band’s dynamic range.
The Early 20’s continue to carve out their place as one of New Zealand’s rising alternative acts, delivering music that resonates with fans of modern emo, shoegaze revival, and the country’s growing DIY underground. Girl In Disguise is a confident step forward: introspective, urgent, and polished.
Girl In Disguise is out everywhere Friday, 28 November.
