Tora Bombora Reveals 2027 Lineup
Following the exciting announcement of its return in 2027, boutique Wairarapa festival Tora Bombora has unveiled a lineup that brings together local favourites, emerging talent and international artists for another unforgettable weekend on the stunning South Wairarapa coastline.
Leading this year’s announcement is Dallas Tamaira (Fat Freddy’s Drop), who will headline with his full band and solo project in what will be his first-ever festival appearance performing his solo material. Joining him as Australian headliner is Melbourne’s acclaimed jazz-house band Close Counters, bringing their full live show to Tora for the very first time.
Festival-goers will also experience the vintage Jamaican dub sounds of Pachyman (Puerto Rico), dreamy funk outfit Warbaby (Wollongong), and Byron Bay indie artists Yellow The Sun and Smokey Cake, adding a vibrant international flavour to this year’s programme.
Also joining the lineup is The Lahaar, a Trans-Tasman super group collaboration between Aotearoa-based drummer, percussionist and producer Julien Dyne (Soundway records, Avantdale Bowling Club, Circling Sun, Half Hexagon, Ladi 6) and Melbourne musicians Lachlan Stuckey (Surprise Chef) on guitar and Horatio Luna (30/70) on electric bass. To much acclaim, The Lahaar released their debut album in 2023 – blending deep grooves, jazz, dub and soul with contributions from some of Aotearoa’s finest vocal and instrumental talent – Mara TK (EWH, Lord Echo), Toby Laing (Fat Freddys Drop), Scott Towers (Fat Freddys Drop) and JY Lee (Avantdale Bowling Club, Yoko Zuna), Guy Harrison (Avantdale Bowling Club, Troy Kingi), Cory Champion (Borrowed CS, Clear Path Ensemble) and Wild Bill Ricketts (The Phoenix Foundation).
The rest of the Aotearoa lineup is equally impressive, featuring AMA-winning MĀ, genre-defying producer Serebii, acclaimed DJ and producer Christoph El Truento, soulful favourites O & The Mo, and Wellington-based psych-soul collective Casual Healing.
Continuing its long-standing commitment to nurturing emerging artists, Tora Bombora will also showcase some of Pōneke’s most exciting new acts, including Bari (Live), 10-piece afrobeat ensemble Startime, Debt Club, and BADTAB.
Festival creator Louis Murphy Harris says that supporting emerging artists has always been at the heart of Tora Bombora.
“Tora Bombora has always been a celebration of emerging talent. We’re incredibly lucky to have Wellington just over the hill, with an endless pool of amazing emerging and established musicians and creatives. Every year we try to create a lineup that reflects that while also bringing exciting international artists to the coast.”
While the lineup is a major drawcard, Louis says it’s only one part of what makes the Tora Bombora experience so special.
“It’s the location, the kaupapa and the festival. Tora Bombora is an experience and melting pot of creativity from all angles.”
