The Glen Eden-native gives a taste of what to expect from his upcoming debut EP with 2Sick which was released September 23, followed by No Hat No Play out October 14.
His Westie accent and hyperactive lyricism over bassy, bouncy, EDM-influenced beats creates a one of a kind sound that is as equally suited to an international festival stage, as it is to a local West Auckland garage.
Midas Mind first single 2Sick is a high energy exploration of what makes him unique. Initially flexing his rhyming prowess, the song evolves to reveal the root of his rapping ability to be something less than appealing, and definitely not something you want to catch.
No Hat No Play is about unapologetic self-expression, and asks the question “do I have to lie to rap?”, while simultaneously proving that, no, you don’t. And in fact, you can make a whole crowd dance while you’re at it.
Born and raised at the foothills of the Waitākere Ranges, Midas Mind lived on the border of two different worlds. The rugged, wild west coast on one side, and the temptations of big city suburbia on the other. From far too young, beach and bush collided with drugs and sex, and Midas gained a lifetime of stories and some pretty harsh lessons by his mid-twenties.
Driven by a focus on mental health and a passion for his community, Midas Mind explores the more enjoyable aspects of his journey on his EP Coming Up.
You can see Midas Mind performing LIVE on December 2nd, with more details to be announced soon.
