Renée Millner announces new single ‘So Much’
It’s a rare artist who will tell you their road is an easy one. In the music world, even artists who find fame and fortune have constant challenges to contend with. Singer-songwriter Renee Millner knows these demands and that in rising to meet these personal tests she has found inspiration in the reward. Her single So Much is an optimistic expansion on her songwriting to date.
In addition to the other challenges we all face, Renee is no stranger to the creative blocks, unexpected critiques, and the natural self-doubt that comes with sharing your innermost human experiences with large crowds of strangers. And yet, for all the difficulties that come with her vocation, Renee finds a whole lot to be grateful for. “There’s so much love around all of us,” says Renee. “There’s an abundance of good in the world, and it’s there all the time if we know how to receive it. And yet it seems to me that, so much of the time, we just aren’t aware of it.” Outside of her distinctively smoky vocals, Renee is best known for writing music that has emotional depth and meaning. She has the rare gift of wringing her heart out and presenting its contents to her audience without apology or pretense.
On the circumstances that gave birth to So Much Renee says “Like most artists I know, I haven’t been immune to the opinions of others. I’ve often taken on someone else’s opinion rather than trusting my own. But when I dug down into my own choices, and what really matters to me, what came up most strongly is that I really do have the capacity to offer myself genuine love and support.” Through self-encouragement and conscious engagement, Renee became aware of how much love there is around her. The resulting song takes strides into confident folk-rock arrangements, Renee’s earthy and immediate vocal presence taking soul-filled leaps into homeland rock as the upbeat romp from the band invites you to pursue what’s important to you. The accompanying music video enhances the song’s invigorating sentiment with the intimate and holistic portrayal of self-love, community and interconnectedness.
Like her recent releases, Out Their Windows and Fly Me Back, So Much is produced by Sam Johnson of Rhythm Ace Studios in Oakura. Producing each song is a genuine collaboration, and the multi-talented duo continue to push the musical envelope with textures and layers. In keeping with its upbeat vibe, So Much holds its place between confessional contemporaries Julia Jacklin and Beth Orton, a showcase of grounded perception and personal strength.
