Bexy releases new single ‘You Expect Me to Not Be Inlove?’

Christchurch based Singer-Songwriter Bexy is releasing her second single of the year following her intimate emotional release The Poem Song. You Expect Me To Not Be Inlove? is a fun festival bop filled with anger, resentment and soft rock energy.
Bexy says “I wrote this song on the bathroom floor of a one room apartment I was sharing with my mum.
We had just moved to Sydney together and I was gaining some solitude the only way I could. In the bathroom, journaling and reflecting on my past year filled with rejection and self abandonment.
I’ve been listening to alot of indie pop/rock, like COIN and Dayglow. I stupidly got fake nails so I could only play one string at a time, so I opted for a fast beat pluck of the top string.. A neighbour yelled at me through the walls telling me to shut up.…So…with anger in the air, resentment, indie rock tunes stuck in my head and my limited guitar playing; it makes total sense to me that this song was created.
It all came together really really quickly. Fun upbeat songs don’t tend to pour out of me. So I was stoked that it happened so organically. I sent a voice memo of the song to my producer, Will McGillivray back in NZ. I gave him a rough idea of what I was wanting the production to be like – but kind of just gave him free rein to see what would happen. He did exactly what I was envisioning but better, adding his zesty touch.
This song makes me excited to play shows and festivals. I’m releasing a larger body of work soon with guaranteed tunes for festival energy. So I am itching to get amongst it”
