Neither Do I Announces Debut Album ‘We’re Not Known for Anything’, Shares New Single

Indie alt-rock act Neither Do I is set to release his debut album We’re Not Known For Anything. Singer-songwriter Danny Ebdale is the driving force behind the record, known for his band Hospital Sports and solo project April’s Fool.
Set for release on Thursday 17 April, We’re Not Known For Anything was recorded by Martin Philips (Repairs) at Auckland’s The Vault between March 2023 and April 2024, and mastered by Jonathan Pearce (The Beths).
Neither Do I meticulously crafted the album across almost four years, exploring the more intimate and personal side his writing, with a new focus on subtlety and nuance.
Today’s announcement also includes the release of Ghost Machine — the LP’s first single.

Ebdale says, “Ghost Machine is about feeling like you are surrounded by people that deliberately don’t quite acknowledge you, especially in the music scene, feeling your work has been under-appreciated. It’s about not letting the big names have the power to discourage you because they have ‘the thing’, and so you navigate by soldiering on, despite these feelings.”
Neither Do I is inspired by the likes of Elliott Smith, Rob Crow, Jeff Tweedy and Ani DiFranco.
We’re Not Known for Anything releases Thursday, April 17th on all streaming platforms. Another single is yet to come.
Ebdale says, “There are two sides to this coin – keep your self/ego small enough to remain humble, or stay small because that’s how you’ve grown to feel? There’s a fine line between the two. For me, at least. And maybe someone out there.
This concept is all over this album, but it’s not the only theme – lots of metaphors and fictional wordplay, but about 75% non-fiction if you spend time to unpack it. It’s my most adventurous and mature album yet. It’s my first proper album in 5 years and I’m really proud of it.”
