Auckland’s newest centre for music, Kāhui St David’s, in partnership with NZTrio, the University of Auckland School of Music, Tironui Music Trust, and Sistema Aotearoa, proudly presents String Together – a dynamic three-day musical event.

Taking place from March 28–30, 2025, String Together offers aspiring musicians and rising talent, from primary school to university level, a unique opportunity to learn, collaborate, receive mentorship, and refine their performance skills under the guidance of NZTrio, New Zealand’s top string trio.

String Together will culminate in a public chamber concert in the Great Hall of Kāhui St David’s on Sunday, March 30, celebrating the next generation of performers as they take the stage alongside some of the country’s finest musicians.

On Sunday, March 30, the weekend culminates in a public concert at Kāhui St David’s, featuring performances by NZTrio, the University of Auckland School of Music, Tironui Music Trust, and Sistema Aotearoa.

Proceeds from ticket sales will support this rare performance and mentorship opportunities for young musicians.

Paul Baragwanath, Founder of Kāhui St David’s, says: “Investing in the next generation of musicians is crucial to sustaining the vibrancy of New Zealand’s music scene.

“String Together launches an initiative to celebrate musical talent and build top-quality musical performance in New Zealand.  It will equip young artists with invaluable mentorship, professional development, and real-world experience.”

“School and university aged students will have the rare opportunity to play alongside some of the country’s best musicians, including the renowned NZTrio.

“Music has long been a powerful force for connection, inspiration, and community. String Together embodies this vision – nurturing talent and creating outstanding experiences for audiences now.”

Rod Skipp, General Manager, Tironui Music Trust, says: “We’re thrilled to be part of String Together, collaborating with NZTrio, the University of Auckland, and Sistema Aotearoa at Kāhui St David’s for the first time.  Our students and families are excited to learn from professional musicians, receive expert coaching, and perform in Strings Together | The Concert.

A legacy of music and connection

The concert presents the New Zealand public an opportunity to see the newly restored architectural jewel, Kāhui St David in Auckland, with superb acoustics, soaring lead-light windows and lush red carpet.

Designed as a living memorial to World War One, with global tensions escalating, this place of peace is an ideal venue for cross-generational collaboration.
