First Reserve Releases New Ear-Worm Single ‘Me & My Friends’ – Teasing Forthcoming EP

Wellington, New Zealand based First Reserve is continuing their triumphant year with new single Me & My Friends. The solo recording project of Ryan Connaghan (he/they) has become a buzzed-about name in Aotearoa’s alternative music scene in little over a year. This has led them to coveted support slots, sharing the stage with visiting international acts Keli Holiday, and Hockey Dad as well as domestic icons Park RD, No Cigar, and There’s A Tuesday. The second single from First Reserve’s teased debut EP, Me & My Friends is centred around a catchy chorus hook that fans have already familiarised themselves with at live shows.
Me & My Friends is a groovy, riff-centric indie pop song that culminates in a wild distorted outro. The song sees First Reserve delivering a commentary on the people in his life, and their absence when times are tough. The song battles with feelings of both adoration and resentment for these friends – acknowledging that change is needed, yet the love remains. Much like their last single – Me & My Friends was co-produced by Tarn PK.
Connaghan has cited the song as one of their favourites: “I knew from Tarn and I’s first session that it was something special. I think [Me & My Friends] is the perfect representation of all of my influences in one zany, but loveable package.”
Following this single, fans can expect First Reserve to make an announcement regarding their highly-anticipated debut EP very soon.
