New Loser Releases ‘Draining The Swamp’ Feat. Steve Tofa

Formed in 2024, New Loser is the remote collaboration project of Brent Strathdee-Pehi & Brett Sutton from Northland NZ, with Brett based in Paihia and Brent currently in Kaltukatjara, Australia. Their debut 12-track album was released in October 2025 and covers wide musical terrain; indie dance to metal to punk to industrial hip hop to rock reggae to electronic experimental pop to prog alternative rock to new wave to instrumental cumbia. The album garnered positive reviews including press from UK based publication Stereo Stickman, NZ Muzic.net and a range of online spaces. Album feature collaborators were Steve Tofa (Hamilton), Mike Tauri, Nicola Probert (Northland), Dharminder Singh (Singapore) and David Delemont (Argentina) and Brent’s wife Ajeng Chandrika (Indonesia).

Album follow up garage indie rock single Wishing You Well received nationwide independent radio play in Australia in early 2026. The duo plan to release a new song each month for the rest of the year, beginning in July with Draining The Swamp feat. Steve Tofa.

Teaming up again with talented and prolific vocalist/ musician/ songwriter Steve Tofa (The Mercenaries & Solo work), Draining The Swamp is a moody atmospheric alternative rock tune with a driving bassline, prog and psychedelic leanings and a dash of early 80’s post punk flavour. Steve leans into the heavy, eerie mood with his signature rich vocal tones and harmonies and together the music and vocals make for a powerful, strange and original musical concoction.
