Sophie Aston Announces Atmospheric New Alt-Rock Single ‘Indigo’

Singer-songwriter Sophie Aston returns with Indigo, a dark, cinematic alt-rock single exploring the weight of the modern news cycle, systemic digital fatigue, and emotional burnout. Serving as the final chapter in her initial single trilogy, following her releases Better and Stardust, Indigo arrives on all major streaming platforms on 4th September 2026.
Written on Waiheke Island and produced, mixed, and mastered by New Zealand producer and engineer Scott Seabright (L.A.B, Alien Weaponry), Indigo builds from a quiet, haunting guitar motif into a heavy, cathartic crescendo. The track occupies the same dramatic, tension-filled space as alternative artists like Alanis Morissette, Wolf Alice, and Florence & the Machine.
Inspired by the crushing depth of the ocean, Indigo captures the feeling of being overwhelmed by the modern world and trying to find room to breathe.
“Indigo came from feeling completely overwhelmed by the constant noise of the news cycle and social media,” says Aston. “It’s about that point where everything feels too loud and heavy, like sinking into deep water, and you’re just trying to navigate that burnout and find a quiet place to catch your breath.”
Originally from Birmingham, UK, and now based in Tāmaki Makaurau, Aston has steadily built a reputation across Aotearoa’s indie landscape for her thoughtful storytelling and atmospheric arrangements. Her previous singles earned airplay across local radio, press features in 13th Floor and Muzic.NZ, and a supporting slot for Tiki Taane.
