Emerging as a captivating voice in the New Zealand music scene, Pop/Soul artist Emma Rutherford, originally from North Canterbury and now based in Wellington is ready to make her mark. Emma’s soulful melodies are inspired by artists such as Adele, Billy Joel and Sara Bareilles.
After completing a Bachelor of Music at Ara music arts in 2022, Emma gained some traction after releasing her single and music video Ghost Town, inspired by growing up and growing out of a small town in New Zealand. Emma went on to headline her hometown debut show at the Oxford Town Hall in November 2023 as well as being a featured artist at the North Canterbury Wine and Food Festival in 2024.
Emma Rutherford is a regular performer in the live music scene and has fronted cover bands and duos at some of Christchurch’s biggest and busiest venues and bars. After relocating to Wellington, Emma worked with producer Toby Lloyd from Tiny Triumph Recordings to craft a fresh sound exploring themes of change and growth. Having landed placements on Apple Music’s ‘New in Pop’ and with plans to take her new music on the road in 2026, Emma’s 2025 releases Better Days, Midnight, and with more singles to come, mark the start of an exciting chapter in her musical journey.
