Arthur Ahbez Shares Psychedelic New Single ‘Mystery Train’

Following on from his 2024 album Arthur Ahbez & The Flaming Ahbez, Aotearoa singer-songwriter Arthur Ahbez shares his first release of 2026 in the form of psychedelic single Mystery Train.
A hazy slice of modern psych-pop built around hypnotic organ, driving rhythm and dreamy hypnotic vocals. Arthur Ahbez channels the spirit of the late-60’s while sitting comfortably alongside modern revivalists such as Allah-Las, La Luz and White Fence. Mystery Train exemplifies Ahbez’s love for vintage-inspired songwriting, a trait which has seen him quietly build a cult following throughout his storied career as an independent artist.
Since releasing his debut album Gold in 2013 – a self-recorded collection of lo-fi acid folk and dreamy psychedelia – Arthur has steadily developed a reputation for authentic songwriting and atmospheric recordings rooted in the spirit of 1960’s music.
Arthur’s sophomore album Volume II followed in 2017, expanding his sonic palette while continuing his DIY recording approach. After several years of independent touring across New Zealand, Arthur began working with his band The Flaming Ahbez, shifting toward a fuller studio sound that culminated in his third album Arthur Ahbez & The Flaming Ahbez, released in late 2024. Arthur Ahbez & The Flaming Ahbez was penned by Rolling Stone as one of the best New Zealand releases of the year, describing it as one for “fans of proper rock ‘n’ roll anthems.”
Today Arthur continues to develop his distinctive retro-leaning sound: warm analog textures, jangling guitars and hypnotic rhythms, bridging classic psychedelic influences with modern indie sensibilities.
As a live performer, Arthur Ahbez has supported a wide range of internationally touring artists including The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The War on Drugs, The Babe Rainbow, The Handsome Family, The Growlers, Brant Bjork and Steve Gunn, bringing his blend of organ-driven psychedelia and guitar rock to audiences across the country.
