Yurt Party Shares New Single ‘Boho Dub’ + Announce Tour

Ōtautahi/Christchurch’s Yurt Party release Boho Dub today, October 9, the first of three singles ahead of a second album due early 2027. The six-piece recorded it in January at The Surgery in Wellington, a few weeks after coming off the mainstage at Woodford Folk Festival as surprise favourites.
‘It’s just a song that has a sort of dubbed feel with some quirky chords,’ says guitarist Connor Hartley-Hall, who wrote it.
The title has a predecessor. An earlier Yurt Party tune went by ‘Tango Dub’, and this one kept the second half and swapped out the first. It’s oompah with something sneaky underneath it, upbeat on the surface, closer to the Gypsy Kings than to anything with a tuba section. Hartley-Hall answers to The Hammer in the band – you can find out why by listening. The clever lad also drew the artwork for the singles.
The Surgery keeps a Hammond C3, and keys player Tom Harris spent most of the week on it for its character. It’s all over Boho Dub. Drummer Thomas Isbister swapped hats on the final day and layered percussion overdubs across the record, and Dr Lee Prebble put a light dub gloss over the top.
Boho Dub follows shows at Cuba Dupa, Single Fin Mingle, Tora Bombora, Twisted Frequency, Nostalgia and Woodford, and arrives two weeks before the band’s Australian dates.
The album behind it was recorded and mixed at The Surgery Studio in Wellington by Dr Lee Prebble. The band camped out there for a week at the end of January 2026, straight off a long touring run, and worked through the material in one stretch. It sits mellower and cosier than previous Yurt Party releases, with the fire still in it.

Yurt Party are an six-piece instrumental band from Ōtautahi Christchurch, playing what they call street party music – Balkan and Latin folk forms run through dub, at volume, for people who’d rather dance than watch. They released their self-titled debut in September 2023 and sold out a nationwide tour the same year. In early 2026 they played the mainstage at Woodford Folk Festival, and they hold the Golden Fiddle Award for Best Band with a Fiddler.
Recorded and mixed by Dr Lee Prebble at The Surgery Studio, Wellington. Mastered by Joshua Llewellyn.
