Boyracer Releases ‘Every DJ Is God’ EP
In the beginning, God created the dancefloor. And the spirit of boyracer moved over the face of the CDJ. Then boyracer said “let there be remixes”. And there were remixes.
Assembling a squadron of Tāmaki Makaurau’s finest underground producers, Every DJ Is God is a biblical reimagining of boyracer’s debut single, God is The DJ. Shaped by new hands, the track is reborn in shades of trance, ballroom, club, dubstep and hardstyle, with fresh vocal contributions from Intersekt and Takatapunani.
The remixes arrive only days after the release of the dazzling God is The DJ music video, which sees boyracer finding new religions in a post-apocalyptic world.
About the DJs
boyracer is an emerging electronic duo from Tāmaki Makaurau consisting of experimental artists and DJs Smurgy and Nima Astria. boyracer uses off-the-cuff lyricism and addictive clangy percussion to test the boundaries of what local music in Aotearoa could sound like.
Teddyyy is the musical project of Theodore Holmstead-Scott (Rangitāne o Wairau), co-founder of queer club night NYMPHO. Teddyyy’s music offers an atmospheric, emotionally-driven take on electronic pop, weaving spectral vocal hooks through a tapestry of trance, hyperpop, ambient and club sounds.
JHL is an Auckland-based singer-producer specialising in the cross-section of pop melodic sensibilities and avant-garde explorations of sound. They have collaborated with the likes of Rei Brown, Ghozt, Myen, Blood of Aza, Alparr and many others, as well as released on labels such as Soul Feeder.
Odeious is a multi-disciplinary project of Kat Lang, better known as a co-founder of Third Party in Pōneke and a producer / resident DJ of NYMPHO. Purveyor of horny death music, Odeious creates luminous textural progression born of musique concrete principles and submerged club memories.
Intersekt (she/they) is a Jamaican-Pākēha sound designer, DJ and producer from Aotearoa. She is well known within her local community for innovative hyperpop production, on Soundcloud for delivering the hottest pop remixes, and has opened for international artists such as DJ G2G and Ninajirachi.
rede. is an emerging underground producer and DJ from Tāmaki Makaurau, known for previous production work with nominated Best Pacifica Artist MELODOWNZ, Smurgy, boyracer and Kari Kira. rede.’s production style has an energetic swag and hot bass that cannot be emulated elsewhere.
Nima Astria is an Iranian-Kiwi contemporary DJ and artist from Tāmaki Makaurau. Nima is known for “avant-club” genre-bending and playful DJ sets, with a penchant for deconstructed and industrial experimental beats. Beyond the boyracer project, she has released three singles under her own name.
Takatapunani is the rap project of Asher McCarten (Ngāpuhi). An up-and-coming voice in the local ballroom scene and one of the fastest rising artists in Tāmaki Makaurau’s underground, she fuses body-moving production with raw vulgar lyricism, bringing new sonic offerings to your taringa.
