Emily Bateman releases atmospheric sophomore EP ‘Pale Light’
Pale Light is the latest offering from Auckland alternative pop artist, Emily Bateman. Exploring messy relationship dynamics, self-sabotage, and a chronic case of romanticising the past, Emily’s sophomore EP is an introspective, striking project. Despite the title, it’s Emily’s boldest work yet, plunging headfirst into a world of vivid, anthemic choruses and revealing lyricism.
Pale Light is a natural progression from Emily’s debut EP Like I Always Do. The guitars are still present, even cranked up a notch on tracks like What A Dream and I Know It’s Bad, and the focus remains on Emily’s vocals. The songwriting is sharp and direct, with hooks that bury their way under your skin. Emily worked closely with producer Andrew Isdaleon the project, with help from Kahu Sanson-Burnett on What A Dream.
With multiple Spotify editorial placements under her belt, an opening slot at Auckland’s Powerstation, and a brand new sophomore EP, Emily Bateman continues to carve out a name for herself in the city’s indie scene.
