Matty J. Ruys Returns with It’s Okay I’m Not Okay Part 1 Feat. 7Hoodies

Following the releases of Black Jesus and Something Good, Matty J. Ruys returns today, Friday July 10th, with his most personal release yet. It’s Okay, I’m Not Okay Part 1 Feat. 7Hoodies comes after his life changing cancer diagnosis; a challenge made all the more difficult as it followed his partner’s breast cancer diagnosis, for which she is 3 months into her chemotherapy treatment.
Produced again by U.S. collaborator Numonics (Marlon Craft, Freddie Gibbs, Arrested Development), It’s Okay, I’m Not Okay Part 1 also features new young L.A. rapper 7Hoodies, who fought his own cancer battle and is now in remission.
“In a strange turn of events, this single was actually planned before my diagnosis. Needless to say, it has taken on a whole new meaning for me. The unwelcome invader has turned my world upside down for me in recent weeks, and I’m still processing.
On initial listen, this song might come across a little depressing but, my hope is that people will be comforted by it. I want to share it with anyone who feels lonely, suffers depression, is going through a break up, battles anxiety, or like me – is maybe facing a life-threatening illness. Everybody carries with them their own life baggage and hurdles. In this world of “perfect” lives on social media, I want you to know it’s okay to be NOT okay. It’s okay to feel hopeless. It’s okay to be real about the monster under your bed. We need to find the courage to say so. We need to show ourselves grace.
This song is also for the ones in orbit. Check on your friends. Be a support. Sometime a little love, support, empathy, company can go a long way.
It takes a village.”
It’s Okay, I’m Not Okay Part 1 Feat. 7Hoodies is taken from Matty J. Ruys’ upcoming album Beautiful Mess.
