Pacific-Pop Extraordinaire Erny Belle Announces Sophomore Album ‘Not Your Cupid’

Today, Tāmaki Makaurau’s pacific-pop extraordinaire and double Taite Music Prize nominee Erny Belle has announced her highly anticipated sophomore album Not Your Cupid — out Friday 10th November 2023 via Flying Nun Records.
Not Your Cupid is Erny Belle’s Te Ao Mārama era; the artist now stepping into a world of light. “It’s more about the future & imagining than painting scenes of life around me. Less narrative, more cryptic, less thought, more intuition. Plucked from the clouds or stars somewhere & brought to life by many talented hands.” reveals Belle.

Today, Erny Belle also shares a new album single/video Stay Golden. Says Belle of the single, “Stay Golden is about leaving a life behind in order to fulfil your purpose and love that stands through time and distance, not just geographically. Don’t forget me and I won’t forget you but don’t forget what you set out to do. Stay gold, pony boy, stay gold.”
The simplistically powerful video for Stay Golden is a classic soundstage performance with an antipodean twist. Co-directed by Aimee and Matt Hunter, it features a gilded Belle guided by two Tahitian dancers. “Remember me”, she croons atop the song’s unsettling chords. Made with the support of NZ On Air.
The announcement follows the playfully earnest single/video Unchained , released in August via Flying Nun Records.
“Belle moves so impressively effortlessly through her songs; swaying melodies that threaten to sink into background noise but swim back into one’s consciousness in a sudden moment.” – Rolling Stone
“The single marries her calming voice with a slightly unsettling chord progression. The lyrics speak to an uneasiness in a relationship, but the production does most of the storytelling” – The New Zealand Listener
With more touring to be announced soon, Erny Belle also features on the lineup for Laneway Festival NZ in 2024.
