Auckland production meeting DMV lyricism produces a sound that belongs fully to neither scene – allowing it to travel between them.
On Trust, rede. constructs a bed of textured, glitchy pads atop a double-time drum framework, creating a sonic environment that is club-adjacent without being club music. Into that space steps Kari Kira, a DMV rapper whose SoundCloud-era cadence carries the weight of lived experience. His verses navigate survival, discernment and loyalty with the clarity of someone who has been tested repeatedly and come out the other side clear-eyed.
This release builds on the momentum of rede.’s previous collaborative project Mellow, Calm & Chill – alongside Avondale rapper Melodownz and NZG figurehead/fingerboard legend Hyan – continuing his commitment to the space where hip-hop and electronic music converge.
Trust comes as the first of a cycle of non-album singles rede. is releasing as he prepares to release his debut studio album “it’s a miracle anything gets done” set to release later this year, featuring guest artists from all corners of the global underground.
