Robinson and The Romantics Embrace New Era with ‘Hollywood Movie’
Robinson and The Romantics have today released Hollywood Movie – an absolute powerhouse of a track about reaching for the stars but not losing yourself in the process.
In May, NZ-born artist Robinson announced she was turning the page on a new chapter; revealing new music AND a new moniker – Robinson and The Romantics.
With the news came the single Guaranteed, which Robinson is now following up with the power anthem, Hollywood Movie. The song reflects on her journey from a little girl with big dreams living in small town New Zealand, to a chart-topping UK-based artist with hundreds of millions of streams to her name.
“When I listen to Hollywood Movie, I see my 14-year-old self and the many others, who like me, would watch the Disney Channel and Hannah Montana and get inspired to make it happen. It’s an honest reflection of the beauty of the dream, but also the toughness. It’s a reminder that big dreams can come true but not to lose yourself in the process.”
She adds: “When a dream becomes our whole purpose, it can quickly consume every part of us where our entire validation relies upon it. I’ve learnt that to be truly happy and fulfilled, my whole identity can’t be entirely music. There needs to be a balance of living, family, friends, connection, fun, joy and stillness. Being an artist is such a big beautiful part but the relationship to it is so much healthier when there’s balance.”
With its driving guitar and melodic synths, Hollywood Movie showcases Robinson’s flair for writing hook-laden ‘coming of age’ anthems and evokes a sense of elation – that feeling you get when you’re driving with the windows down and singing at the top of your lungs.
The song, which is co-written with and produced by Charles Macdonald, is accompanied by a video shot by Soren Harrison and Molly Hayward, which depicts the beauty and chaos of the dream. The video will be released on Friday October 23.
A double platinum artist, Robinson emerged in 2018 with her debut single Nothing To Regret, which has amassed more than 130M Spotify streams. She followed it with a string of successful releases, including the 2020 EP, Watching You. Earlier this year, she unveiled her new name Robinson and The Romantics, explaining that it was a natural evolution: “It’s the same me, same voice, same songs, same Robinson. The only difference is the music now has a world to which it belongs. The Romantics are dreamers – they’re not afraid to go within and follow their heart, they’re sensitive, deep feelers and passionate.”
Hollywood Movie and Guaranteed are both on the upcoming Robinson and the Romantics EP, which is due out in 2027.
