Rising New Zealand singer-songwriter and self-producer SIUA (Siosiua Tapa) returns with Diving Deeper a warm, wave-swept ode to falling for someone completely, out everywhere today, August 21.

Following his debut single On The Roll (entered Hot 20 Aotearoa Singles at #8 week of release), Diving Deeper pulls SIUA’s sound further into the sun-drenched, reggae-inflected R&B and pop territory that has drawn comparisons to Teddy Swims, Mike Love and Ernest. Built around acoustic guitar, warm electric piano and a steady groove that never rushes, the track captures the low-key, high-feeling sway of a relationship that’s stopped being casual.

Diving Deeper trades the roll of the tide for a metaphor of surrender – a narrator who’s stopped fighting the current and let himself be pulled under. In the pre-chorus, that surrender becomes explicit: “Ocean, diving deeper into your heart / emotion, diving deeper into your heart” By the chorus, SIUA is likening the person he loves to a wave he’s riding with his soul – one he’s happy to be “kept afloat” by, even as the sun sets and the tide comes in.

“This song is about that moment when you stop trying to protect yourself from falling and just let the wave take you,” says SIUA. “I wanted it to feel like standing at the edge of the water at sunset – that mix of calm and butterflies. It’s the most honest I’ve been in a song.”

Written and self-produced, Diving Deeper continues his hands-on approach to songwriting, arrangement, and sound design.

Sonically, the single leans into the same lineage of warm, acoustic-driven romanticism found on playlists like John Mayer Acoustic and Sam Smith Acoustic, while its island-inflected groove ties it back to SIUA’s reggae roots – echoes of Katchafire, House of Shem and The Black Seeds filtered through a more contemporary, R&B-leaning pop production.

Diving Deeper is now available across all major streaming platforms.
