Sola Rosa Drops Third Single From Forthcoming Album

Sola Rosa delivers a laid-back funk testament to positivity and strength on red hot single Shine On, from his upcoming album, Chasing The Sun.

Adding to his steady stream of collaborative singles to date, which launched with Searching For Love with UK soul and reggae star Kiko Bun, followed by For The Mighty Dollar featuring The Streets vocalist Kevin Mark Trail and UK soul singer Sharlene Hector, Shine On showcases the effortless talent of rising Australian artist, Thandi Phoenix who crafted the vocals and lyrics for this track.

Recorded in a Sydney studio session following a trans-Tasman exchange of beats, melody and ideas, Shine On is about finding your voice, and strength, to move on from someone who’s tried to break you down. Beginning with the lines “I glisten and I beam, I know I am Queen, not ever looking back, I’m focused on my path”, Shine On is a bold reminder to never settle for less.

Thandi elaborates; “I believe it’s so important to surround yourself with positive forces, and if someone or something is no longer serving you, building you up, or encouraging you to be your best, then you gotta LET. IT. GO! I know that’s easier said than done – we create attachments and loyalties to things, and make excuses for why they’re not that bad – but there’s got to come a time where you stand up for yourself and do what’s right for you. Remember who you are!”

Andrew Spraggon, the man behind Sola Rosa, explains how the collaboration came to be; “Thandi and I initially connected through my music publisher, and we ended up collaborating on the upcoming single Something Good, which also appears on the album. That process, and the final result totally blew my expectations of what we could achieve. I really enjoyed working with Thandi, and I was so impressed with the first session that I flew back to Sydney and we recorded Shine On.”

Shine On is infused with a laid back punchy groove. Propelled by horns courtesy of Mike Booth, Andrew Hall and Hadyn Godfrey, flute from Lewis McCallum and guitar delivered by Jeremy Toy and Dixon Nacey, Shine On’s rhythm section is carried by Andrew Spraggon on synth bass, with percussion by Julien Dyne. Elia Gaitau and Andrew Spraggon round out the track on keys.

Sola Rosa is now poised to return to the stage, with live band in tow, for the We Love Aotearoa R18 event which takes place at Queens Wharf in Auckland on Saturday 15 August. This performance will be the first after an eight month hiatus. Expect to hear tracks from the new album Chasing The Sun, interspersed with classic Sola Rosa jams.
