Summer Thieves Are Back With A Catchy New Banger

Kiwi four-piece Summer Thieves have today dropped their anthemic new single Hands – a sure-fire festival anthem.

With a reputation for turning out tunes laden with catchy hooks and toe-tapping beats, Hands is no exception.

Penned by Summer Thieves band members Jake Bartos, Izzy Bones and Johnny Ward, alongside co-writer and leading New Zealand producer Alex Wildwood, it is all about those vices or bad habits we like to keep under wraps.

“The song puts a positive spin on the negative,” explains Jake. “We’re having a little laugh at ourselves and the stupid things we do from time-to-time.”

Accompanying the song is a cleverly crafted animated video, made by Pop That and Harris Keenan.

Hands is the follow-up to the single All I Want and is from Summer Thieves upcoming EP, set for release in 2020.

Again working with acclaimed producer Alex Wildwood (Sachi), Hands showcases the Summer Thieves signature sound blending reggae, hip-hop, rock and funk across a feel-good anthem.

Rising from the famed Dunedin student scene, Summer Thieves is made up by Jake Bartos (lead vocals and guitar), Johnny Ward (drums and vocals), Adam Spencer (bass), and Izzy Bones (lead guitar and keys). They emerged on the scene in 2017 with their debut album Warped produced by award-winning, Kiwi legend Tiki Taane.

With a fiercely loyal and rapidly growing fanbase, Summer Thieves have earned themselves a reputation as one of the country’s best live acts, selling out their last four nationwide tours and playing alongside heavyweights such as Six60, Katchafire and Sons of Zion as well as international acts like Sticky Fingers, Hermitude, Macklemore and Peking Duk.
