'the Sun Te Rā' New Children's Song By Jaqualyn Taimana Williams

The Sun Te Rā is a children’s guitar-hero rockin’ dance song with te reo, facts about the sun and awesome sound effects.

Jaqualyn Taimana Williams (Jaqi) is a musician and songwriter of rock music for adults, and bilingual te reo Māori songs for children. Jaqi is also a full-time kaupapa Māori early childhood teacher. The Sun Te Rā is an epic, energetic te reo Māori/English children’s rock song inspired by the astrophysics curiosity of an enthusiastic young learner at the kindergarten where Jaqualyn was teaching.

“I have noticed that rock music has a place in helping children to let off steam and deal with big feelings. It is also the ideal style of music to express the mighty energy of the sun, Te Rā” says Jaqi.

The video was made with the help of funding from NZ On Air and the kind donations of footage from NASA and other online science channels. In 2019 Jaqi released Waiata Tamariki the album. Her children’s songs have had regular airplay worldwide. Next year will see Jaqi releasing Waiata Tamariki 2.
