With a New Zealand tour alongside US punk legends Strung Out only weeks away, Waikato four-piece The Vile Maxim are heading back to Auckland for what promises to be one of their biggest headline shows yet.

Taking over Dead Witch on Saturday 15 August, the band will be joined by an impressive cross-section of New Zealand punk, featuring Bay of Plenty’s Cost of Living, Whangārei’s Wave Pig, and Auckland favourites Lost Vessels.

Fresh from supporting international & local heavyweights Lagwagon and Bleeders, The Vile Maxim have quietly earned a reputation as one of the country’s hardest-working underground punk bands. Their live shows favour intensity over polish, delivering fast, abrasive songs with tight musicianship, raw energy and absolutely zero pretence.

Rather than chasing trends, The Vile Maxim have continued to build momentum the old-fashioned way, spending their weekends loading gear, playing loud rooms and sharing stages with bands they grew up listening to. That work ethic has seen them land a run of high-profile support slots while steadily growing their own audience around Aotearoa.

The August show also highlights the strength of New Zealand’s punk community, bringing together four bands from across the country for a night that showcases the diversity and health of the local underground scene.

Whether it’s Cost of Living’s driving melodic punk, Wave Pig’s uncompromising energy, Lost Vessels’ polished songwriting, or The Vile Maxim’s relentless live assault, the lineup offers something for anyone who still believes punk belongs in sweaty rooms with loud amps and ringing ears.
