Northern England broadside ballad singer Jennifer Reid has landed in Tāmaki Makaurau, to start her North Island tour on Friday April 4 at Pyramid Club in Pōneke.

Reid is a punk folk artist dedicated to keeping the rich heritage of nineteenth-century music alive. She researches, preserves and performs Lancashire dialect and Victorian broadside ballads, carrying on the tradition of using music as a social provocation.

As an actor, Reid has portrayed Barb in Shane Meadows’ critically acclaimed period drama The Gallows Pole and performed at Chanel’s Metiers d’Art show. She has supported Pulp, John Cooper Clarke and Eliza Carthy, and is about to release a new collection of recordings, The Ballad Of The Gatekeeper, produced by Pete Townshend.

Reid’s Aotearoa tour includes appearances at trad folk festivals Hamsterfest and Tradfest, as well as stops at locations across the North Island, from Pōneke to Whanganui to the legendary Devonport Bunker.
