Yurt Party x Rare Specimens Shares brand new track ‘Hot Pickles (Rare Specimens Remix)’

Ōtautahi street-party groove legends Yurt Party team up with disco-club sorcerers Rare Specimens for their first official remix release – a dubbed-out, synth-soaked reimagining of fan favourite Hot Pickles.
Originally released in 2023, Hot Pickles quickly became a favourite for its tempo shifts, groove changes, and blazing solos. Now, it’s been reimagined by Rare Specimens’ Dan Rainey and Nick Munday, transforming the tune from late-night street party to peak-hour club heater – with final touches from Danny Fairley (mixing) and Ben Horton (mastering).
“Building upon Yurt Party’s tempo-shifting grooves and dynamic arrangement, we retooled Hot Pickles by delivering a dubbed-out rework full of bouncing drums and psychedelic synth flourishes, aimed squarely at the dancefloor.” – Dan Rainey
This remix comes off the back of two raucous party collaborations between the bands in Queenstown and Wanaka. For Yurt Party – known for fusing Latin, Balkan, and dub into their own brand of “virtuosic street party music” – the leap into electronic territory was a natural one.
“I love hearing a good electronic mashup of world, folk and traditional music, so the idea of having one of our tunes remixed felt pretty exciting,” says violinist Lorenz Weston-Salzer.
“The collaboration with Rare Specimens came alongside a couple of epic parties we hosted together in Queenstown and Wanaka last year. We’re excited for everyone to hear this new twist on one of our favourite tracks.”
