Change is a reminiscent alt-rock single, akin to the ballads of the late 90s/early Noughties. From the opening acoustic guitars to the final “la de das”, it’s a warm embrace, a cinematic closer and an ode to unconventional lovers. There’s a familiarity with all Investigator songs, and Change has it in abundance, think Goo Goo Dolls, Collective Soul, Manic Street Preachers, Crowded House etc.

Working again with the powerhouse producer, Scott Seabright, this time on mixing and mastering duties, this is the first fully produced single by frontman, Adrian Drew. Recorded over a two week period up at his Kaipara studio, we hear the full emotion of his voice as it was recorded one autumn morning at dawn. As per previous recordings of late, there’s no sign of the synthetic, from acoustic drums to mic’d up amps, and there’s no place for auto-tune…it’s just a band in a room.

This is the first single to feature the new lineup. Top-tier guitar slinger, Chad Heesch has been a mainstay the last couple of years and now the band adds a new but familiar rhythm section in; Mark Dingle (Mother Motor) and Jason Wilson (New Damage) on drums and bass respectively. The pair met when Jason briefly joined Mark in Mother Motor and now with the two reunited and reinvigorated, it’s brought a new energy and professionalism to the group.

Look out for Investigator as they start to book shows again – this new lineup is not to be missed!
