Wellington Trip-Hop Trio Tragedies Release Debut Single

Pōneke based trip-hop/alt-rock act Tragedies has announced the release of their debut single Ordinary, due for release on May 1st on Bandcamp. Recorded, mixed and produced entirely in-house, the track marks the bands first official release ahead of a string of live shows in Wellington city. Ordinary explores the middle ground of danceable trip-hop beats and raw singer-songwriter emotional intensity through hypnotic drum loops and deeply vulnerable lyrics, drawing on inspiration from a wide range of influences including Massive Attack, Radiohead and The Cure. The single was recorded in a home studio on a threadbare budget.
“It started as an acoustic folk song I played on my little nylon string guitar, but it really came into its own when Aimee started experimenting with a sequencer.” says singer and guitarist Gwen. “That overlap of gut-wrenching intimacy and a beat you can move to solidified our identity as a band.” Tragedies will perform Ordinary live at Newtown Hall on May 15th supporting Diplopoda, and headlining at Valhalla on July 15th, with further dates to be announced.
