Kevin Fogarty has form: he was lead guitarist, principal songwriter and one of three main vocalists of legendary Ōtepoti Dunedin band The Knobz.

Murray Cammick tells The Knobz story well in his AudioCulture profile of the band: “The Knobz formed in Dunedin in January 1979 and were soon a household name after the success of their second single ‘Culture?’. The topical single attacked the 40 percent sales tax on local music.”

When The Knobz split, Fogarty started, and was patron of, the New Zealand Ukulele Trust and Festival, writing their theme song ‘Kiwi Ukulele’. He’s also a dab hand at table tennis, playing regularly in international competitions.

Kevin Fogarty’s song Tomorrow is a song of hope:

“Living in a world of poverty but holding on to integrity,
from all of these chains you can’t break free….but there’s always tomorrow.”

An opening guitar riff leads to a verse of struggles, but the chorus has us sailing away from yesterday to Tomorrow.

Kevin Fogarty’s forthcoming debut solo album One Way contains fourteen tracks: Tomorrow, Working for a Song , Time Waits, and The Sale of New Zealand (an asset sales protest song), The ANZAC Song (about Fogarty’s grandad), I Like It (the first Knobz single), I Lost U, the title track One Way, Just an Echo, Table Tennis (the World Veterans’ theme song), Before You Know It, All My Love and I Want You Near.
There are also a couple of Ukulele World tracks: Rock That Uke and Kiwi Ukulele.

Kevin Fogarty’s album One Way will be released digitally and on vinyl next month (December 2026, firm date TBA).

Fogarty will also be heading to his home city of Ōtepoti Dunedin on December 1st for a month of shows with his band Big Brother, which includes his own brother John Fogarty. Their set includes covers and Kevin Fogarty’s own songs.
