Blending cathartic emo-pop with metal-tinged skate punk, Wellington-based teen rock band Rock Resurrection refuse to stay inside the lines. Their debut album is no exception – packing a whirlwind of styles into 45 minutes of high-octane emo-punk, all self-produced in the Mackie brothers’ studio.
Formed in 2024 by brothers Oliver and Tommy Mackie, the band is rounded out by Elliott Conlon and Isaac Baty. Gritty yet melodic guitar work drives their sound, backed by urgent drumming, thunderous bass, and hooks that hit hard and stick. The result isn’t quite punk, pop, or metal – it’s something distinctly their own.
Their self-titled debut showcases that range in full, moving seamlessly from bright pop-punk to fast, Oi!-influenced anthems and emotionally charged epics. Opener Drowning sets the scene with furious skate punk energy, and Why Do U Hate Me? smoothly introduces sharper, radio-ready hooks. Standout track Never Good Enough captures the band at their most dynamic, building from a stripped-back acoustic opening into a soaring, arena-ready finale – blending classic rock scale with modern emo intensity.
