Sun Motel Releases ‘shade me’ Feat. ChaptA

Experimental NZ artist sun motel unveils shade me, featuring local Kiwi rapper ChaptA – this track explores what happens when we allow someone else to shape the way we see ourselves. Through lyrics like “My heart is for sale” and “Paint my eyes so blue” the song navigates the tension between longing for authentic connection and holding onto identity.
Blending atmospheric production by Chequered Pattern$ with intimate storytelling, the track moves through themes of perception, selfworth, and the blurred line between love and
influence. Rather than portraying love as a perfect escape, shade me acknowledges the risk that comes with opening yourself to another person, and the courage it takes to decide which parts of yourself remain your own.
The song’s visual world extends and supports this concept through paint, glitter, awkward tension & artistic expression, symbolising the layers we’re given by others and the versions of ourselves we choose to embrace. It’s not just black and white – videography by Samantha Davies.
For fans of: alternative pop, indie electronic, cinematic pop, rap, and emotionally driven songwriting.
